- Intercession from our great High Priest brings us the victory.
What we see with our physical eyes and comprehend with our natural mind can be correlated with spiritual things and give us understanding in the spiritual realm. Paul said: For now we see through a glass, darkly … (I Corinthians 13:12). The darkened image of the spirit world can become more clear when we see its parallel in the natural world.
All truth is parallel in the life of Jesus Christ and His claim that He is our High Priest. He did not come into this world and say that because He was the Son of God, He had the right, by divine authority, to abolish any rules or enact new laws as He saw fit. He came to fulfill the law, as our heavenly Father is a God of order. Jesus said: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (Matthew 5:17).
In order for Jesus to be High Priest, there were certain qualifications that He had to meet:
First, He had to be a human being: For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: (Hebrews 5:1).
Second, He had to offer sacrifices: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (II Corinthians 5:21).
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Third, He had to endure temptation:
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need..
Fourth, He had to have compassion: And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick (Matthew 14:14).
I don’t believe that there is a pain, anguish, sorrow, or heartbreak, or a physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, or financial struggle known to man that Jesus has not felt in Himself. The Scripture says that we are to come boldly to the throne of grace. We are to have the confidence that when we make our requests known to Jesus, He will intercede for our needs before the Father. He will speak on our behalf from a position of feeling and understanding exactly what we feel and what we’re going through.
At the moment you present your needs to Jesus, realize that He is a High Priest Who understands your physical and emotional pain. He understands pain in your body. He understands grief from losing a loved one. He understands the anguish of having unmet needs. When you understand this, you will not be able to be shaken in faith. As you hold fast to your profession of faith, and approach the throne of grace, you will find help in your time of need.
What are you waiting for? Your High Priest is waiting for you to bring Him your requests so that He may intercede for your needs.
Say this faith declaration out loud: Dear Jesus, I know that You feel what I feel, and that You are my intercessor with the Father. I will bring my needs to You, knowing that You have compassion on me and desire for me to be victorious. I receive my victory today through my great High Priest.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
