- President Obama has issued a new executive order on gun control as a means to deal with the increasing number of mass shootings occurring in the United States.
- At a press conference, President Obama recalled the 2012 massacre of 20 Sandy Hook Elementary School students.
- In 1986, every child and every teacher walked away from the Cokeville Elementary School bombing.
As violence in America increases, instead of looking to our Savior Jesus Christ for help, we have made a sharp turn away from Him, and now look to human means for resolving the issues. What effect has this had on our nation over the last 30 years and where do we go from here?
In 1986, when the students of Cokeville Elementary School were taken hostage by a man with a bomb, the school, the town, and the nation united in prayer. The 98 elementary school students gathered in a circle, in front of the bomber, and prayed to God Almighty, in the Name of Jesus, for help. Praise God that they knew how to do that. Praise God that their parents had taught them the power of prayer. Praise God that no one got offended and commanded them to stop.
The town’s high school students also all bowed their knees in prayer, while the parents gathered outside of the elementary school and prayed.
Every student and every teacher walked out of that school alive, after the bomb exploded in the small classroom where they were all gathered. And countless students later gave accounts of angels appearing and helping them. According to the accounts, angels made a circle around the man with the bomb, and when it exploded, they carried the blast straight out through the ceiling.
Everything about the story is a miracle. The students prayed, on their own accord, angels appeared, and everyone was saved from a bomb that exploded right in their midst.
It makes us wonder, though, where were those angels during other tragic events? Perhaps they didn’t appear because people no longer seek God for answers and protection. Instead, man now looks to himself as his own protector.
Stricter gun laws may be a good idea, but they cannot give us the same peace and protection that God gives us when we call upon His Name.
The Lord said:
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
If this nation continues on the path that it is on, it will not survive. We must fight in faith, through prayer, to restore our nation to one that honors and obeys God above all else.
Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, I will pray diligently for this nation to come to repentance and to realize that we cannot protect ourselves, and that without You, we are lost. I will endeavor to do my part to spread the Gospel and teach others how to pray.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments,
hearkening unto the voice of his word.
The angel Gabriel said to Daniel, Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words.
